Crunchy salad made of moong dal

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Moong dal / yellow lentils - 1/2 cup [ 1 cup size = 150 ml ]
  2. Salt - as needed
  3. Oil - 2 tsp
  4. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  5. Chaat masala - 3/4 tsp
  6. Onion - 1/2
  7. Tomato - 1/2
  8. Cucumber (chopped) - 3/4 cup
  9. Mango (chopped) - 1/2 cup
  10. Green chilli - 1
  11. Coriander leaves - few
  12. Mint leaves - few
  13. Lemon juice - 1/2 tsp
  14. Masala peanuts - 4 tsp
  15. Sev ( om podi) or kara boondhi - 4 tsp
  16. Turmeric Powder - 1/4 Tsp
  17. Asafoetida - A Pinch
  18. Sugar - 1/4 tsp

Instructions

  1. Soak the moong dal for an hour and cook it in a vessel with 1/2 cup of water. Make sure the dal is not cooked in mashed consistency, it has to be crunchy. Set it aside
  2. Heat a vessel with oil and add cumin seeds, asafoetida and turmeric powder. Once it splutters, add the cooked dal, salt, sugar and chaat masala
  3. Saute it for 1 - 2 minutes and then switch off the flame. Transfer this to a bowl.
  4. Chop onion, tomato, green chili, coriander leaves and mint leaves
  5. Before serving, mix (onion, tomato, green chili, coriander leaves, mint leaves, mango, cucumber, lemon juice, masala peanuts, om podi) everything together and add it to the dal mixture.
