Dhokar Dalna

Ingredients to make Dhokar Dalna

  • bengal split gram 1 cup (chana dal)
  • salt to taste
  • Oil 4 tbsp
  • green chillies 3 (chopped)
  • yoghurt 1 tbsp
  • coriander powder 1/4 tsp
  • turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • garam masala 1 tsp
  • Large potatoes 2 (peeled)
  • ginger 1 inch pieces (chopped)
  • cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  • ginger garlic paste 1 tsp

How to make Dhokar Dalna

  1. Soak the lentils overnight in three cups of water. Grind the lentil, with salt, ginger and garlic paste, chopped green chillies in a grinder to make it a granular, almost coarse paste
  2. Heat oil to smoking in a wok and fry the lentil paste until it becomes golden brown in colour. Spread this mixture over a greased plate and cut into diamond shapes
  3. Heat oil to smoking in the wok again, and fry the potatoes. Add garam masala, cumin seeds, chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, ginger, turmeric powder and saute for 5 mins.
  4. Add yoghurt and salt and mix well. Add a bit of water to make it a gravy
  5. Add the fried lentil cakes into the gravy, cover and cook for 8 mins over low flame
  6. Serve it hot, garnished with few coriander sprigs.
