About Sev Tameta Nu Shaak Recipe

A snack/main course recipe which belongs to the wonderful Gujarati cuisine.

Sev Tameta Nu Shaak

Ingredients to make Sev Tameta Nu Shaak

  • 3 tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seed powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/3 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • salt to taste
  • 1/3 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
  • 1 cup sev

How to make Sev Tameta Nu Shaak

  1. Boil the tomatoes for 10 minutes. Then cool and peel off their skins. Puree 2 of these tomatoes and chop 1 of them.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, grated garlic and finely chopped onion. Cook them until they slightly change their colour.
  3. Add in the chopped tomato and tomato puree and cook for 5 minutes. Next, add salt, 1/4 cup water, cover and cook for another 5-7 mins. Then add all the masalas and more water if needed. Cover and simmer it for 3 more minutes.
  4. While serving, pour some gravy in a bowl and put sev on top of it. Garnish with coriander leaves.

My Tip:

Add a tablespoon of tomato ketchup to enhance the flavor and color.
