ABOUT Fish Puttu RECIPE

Made this spicy and tangy South Indian style puttu from leftover fried fish. It is served as an accompaniment with dal chawal.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Leftover fish fillet .. 1 slice
  2. Onion .. 1 small ( finely chopped)
  3. Tomato ... 1
  4. Green chilli ... 1
  5. Ginger paste .., 1 tsp
  6. Garlic paste ... 1 tsp
  7. Turmeric powder... 1/4 tsp
  8. Cumin powder ... 1/2 tsp
  9. Garam masala .. 1/2 tsp
  10. Red chilli powder .. 1/4 tsp
  11. Salt ..., to taste
  12. Oil .... 2 tbsps
  13. For tempering... mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing, red chilli

Instructions

  1. Leftover fish, onions,tomato, green chilli, salt, haldi, hing, garam masala, jeera powder & oil
  2. Break the fish into small pieces discarding the bones.
  3. Heat 2 tbsps of oil and add the tempering ingredients
  4. When they crackle add ginger garlic
  5. Add the onions and sauté. Tip in the tomato and chilli.
  6. When the tomatoes are soft add the fish pieces.
  7. Add 1/4 tsp haldi and 1/2 tsp jeera powder
  8. Next add 1/2 tsp garam masala and salt
  9. Stir in 2 - 3 tbsps of tamarind juice
  10. Fish puttu is ready to be served
  11. It pairs well with dal chawal
