Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 2 cups urad dal/split black gram
  2. 1/2 cup foxtail millets
  3. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  4. salt to taste
  5. peppercorns - 3
  6. oil to deep fry
  7. water as required

Instructions

  1. Wash urad dal and millets in water for a couple of times and soak in enough water for 2 to 6 hours or overnight.
  2. Once soaked grind dal and millet into a smooth yet slightly coarse paste using a blender or food processor.
  3. Add cumin seeds and salt into the batter and mix well until combined.
  4. Heat oil in a pan or wok and make vada by applying some water on your fingers.
  5. Make a dent in the centre and deep fry the vada into hot oil until golden from both sides.
  6. Remove fried vada on paper towel. Serve and enjoy.
