ABOUT QUINOA MOONG DAL KHICHDI RECIPE

I have made many dishes with this amazing grain Quinoa which is one of the most protein rich foods. It is becoming very popular these days and people have started incorporating it in various dishes. It is available in grain, flour and also flake form in the stores. Today I made khichdi with this.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Quinoa ... 1 cup
  2. Yellow moong dal .. 1/2 cup
  3. Carrots ... 2-3 tbsps (diced)
  4. Onion ..... 1
  5. Cherry tomatoes .. 8 (or 1 normal tomato)
  6. Green chillies .. 1-2
  7. Coriander leaves ... handful
  8. Garlic ..... 1 tsp
  9. Ginger .... 1 tsp (grated)
  10. Turmeric powder .. 1/2 tsp
  11. Red chilli powder ...1/4 tsp
  12. Salt ... to taste
  13. (For Tempering:)
  14. Mustard seeds ... 1 tsp
  15. Cumin seeds .... 1 tsp
  16. Asafoetida ..... a pinch
  17. Curry leaves .. few
  18. Oil .... 2-3 tbsps

Instructions

  1. Soak the quinoa and moong dal separately.
  2. In a pressure cooker add the oil and tempering ingredients.
  3. When they crackle, add the garlic, ginger and onion and saute for a minute.
  4. Now add the carrots, green chillies, tomatoes and stir fry for half a minute.
  5. Add the washed quinoa, dal, salt, turmeric ad red chilli powder.
  6. Add about 3 cups of water and stir everything together.
  7. Close the lid and cook for 3-4 whistles. Off the gas and let it cook in its own steam.
  8. Serve with raita, papad pickle..
