ABOUT Prawns Pulav RECIPE

Prawns pulav is a simple and an easy dish to prepare within minutes. I made this within 30 minutes before going out as I had marinated prawns kept in the freezer for frying. To avoid consuming too much of oil in fried stuff, I thought of an easy way to prepare this marinated prawns and it came out perfect.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Prawns (washed and deveined)- 100 gm
  2. Onions (sliced)- 3 nos
  3. Red Chilli powder- 2 tbsp
  4. Turmeric Powder- 1 tsp
  5. Pepper powder- 1 tsp
  6. Salt- as required
  7. Cloves- 4 nos
  8. Cinnamon- 1 no
  9. Cardamom- 4 nos
  10. Rice- 2 Cups
  11. Water- 2 and 1/2 Cups
  12. To Grind:
  13. Ginger and Garlic paste- 1 tbsp
  14. Tomatoes- 2 nos
  15. Poppy Seeds/ Khus khus- 2 tsp
  16. Green Chillies- 3 nos
  17. Coriander leaves- 1/4 bunch

Instructions

  1. Grind the ingredients that are in 'the grind' to a fine paste. Keep this aside.
  2. Wash and soak the rice for about 15- 20 minutes.
  3. Marinate the prawns with red chilli powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder and salt for about 2 hrs.
  4. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add the cloves, cinnamon and cardamom seeds and let them splutter. Add the sliced onions and when they turn translucent add the ground mixture, stir till the raw smell disappears.
  5. Add the marinated prawns and stir well. Add water accordingly and when it starts boiling add the soaked rice, mix and close the cooker without the whistle.
  6. Let this cook on low flame for about 15- 20 minutes and turn off the flame.
  7. When it cools down open and serve along with raita.
