ABOUT Zero Oil and easy Chicken Curry RECIPE

Yes, you heard it right! There is ABSOLUTELY NO OIL used here. You will be surprised at how well this turns out. This is how I prepare chicken curry at home and leave the heavy gravies for the times when we have company for mealtime. My family loves it and my kids keep asking for more ”soup” in it. A friend returned from a holiday in Manipur and kept raving about this local chicken curry that she had tasted. But since I have made some changes in the original recipe that was shared with me, I couldn’t name it ” Manipuri zero-oil chicken ” !!!!

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 500 grams chicken
  2. 4 onions – paste
  3. 4 tomatoes – pureed
  4. 1 inch ginger piece, 6 cloves garlic and 2 green chillies- crushed
  5. 1 cup coriander leaves and 1/2 cup mint leaves (make a roughly ground paste)
  6. 1 tsp Coriander powder
  7. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  8. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  9. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  10. 1 tsp chicken masala powder ( optional )
  11. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. 1. In a heavy bottomed pan, put 2 glasses of water and bring to a boil.
  2. 2. Add the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and salt.
  3. 3. Now add the onion paste and the crushed ginger, garlic & green chillies.
  4. 4. Add the tomato puree, corriander-mint paste and bring to a boil.
  5. 5. Add the chicken pieces. Cover and cook ( on a high flame for 10 minutes and simmer after that) till the chicken is done. Add more water to it for more curry once you open the lid.
