Fish Cakes

Ingredients to make Fish Cakes

  • 500 gms Boneless boiled Kingfish
  • 3 medium boiled Potatoes
  • 4 cloves crushed garlic
  • 3 fresh red chilies
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped parlsey
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/4 tsp crushed black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup cornflour
  • 1/2 seasoned breadcrumbs
  • Oil for shallow frying

How to make Fish Cakes

  1. In a bowl flake the boiled fish, discard the skin and any bones present. Grate the boiled potatoes and mix well.
  2. In a pan add 1 tbsp oil add chopped onion and crushed garlic, let it sweat for a minute add red chili powder, cumin powder and salt and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the onion masala to mashed potato and fish mixture, mix well. Add chopped red chilies, juice of lemon and chopped parsley. Mix well , taste and adjust the seasoning if required.
  4. Crack an egg in a bowl and in one plate keep cornflour and in another plate breadcrumbs. Divide the fish mix into 8 parts. Make patties, coat with cornflour then dunk in egg then coat with bread crumbs.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Gently put the fish cakes in the pan and Cook for 4 minutes each side or until golden brown. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towel. Repeat with the remaining fish mixture.

My Tip:

Serve hot with good squeeze of lime and salad.
