This is a whole meal in itself full of fiber,iron as well as protein.Very nutritious meal for growing children and pregnant women too.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Bajra/pearl millet-1/4 cup
  2. Whole green moong-1/4 cup
  3. Green peas-1/2 cup
  4. Tomatoes-1 cup
  5. Onion-1/2 cup
  6. Garlic-8 cloves
  7. Ginger-1 inch
  8. Green chilli-1
  9. Ghee-1 tbsp
  10. Cumin seeds-1 tsp
  11. Asafoetida-1 pinch
  12. Turmeric-1/4 tsp
  13. Salt
  14. Green coriander-1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak bajra and whole moong for about 5 to 6 hours.
  2. Drain water from both before cooking.
  3. Put the soaked bajra,mung and green peas in cooker with a cup of water and a tsp of salt.
  4. Cover and cook for 5 whistles.Let the pressure release by itself.
  5. The cooked khichdi looks like this.
  6. Now take a pan and add ghee .Add cumin seeds when ghee heats up.Add asafoetida.
  7. Add chopped onions.
  8. Saute for 2 minutes.Add ginger,garlic and chilli paste.
  9. Saute till raw smell goes away.Then add chopped tomatoes.
  10. Mix well.add salt and turmeric also.
  11. Add a tbsp of chopped coriander.
  12. Now add boiled khichdi and stir lightly to mix everything.cover and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.Lastly add 1/4 tsp garam masala.
  13. Our nutritious khichdi is ready.Serve with curd,pickle and salad.
