ABOUT Punjab da Flavour ‘Bhangra Burger’ RECIPE

This is my family favorite burger and I make it often as an after school treat or in for dinner. Ingredients are simple and handy and you can even make the patty ahead and keep it in fridge in an air tight container to fry later. Flavoursome, kid friendly and droolicious burger with kidney beans, urad dal, potatoes and Punjabi garam masala...patty...topped with creamy fun foods mayo, earthy lettuce, crunchy onion rings and juicy tomato slices.....Try this today....

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. To Make Patty For Burger:
  2. ½ cup Rajma/Kidney Beans, washed and soaked overnight/7-8 hours
  3. ¼ cup whole black Urad dal, washed and soaked overnight/7-8 hours
  4. 1 big sized Potato, boiled and mashed
  5. ½ tbsp. Cumin/Jeera
  6. 1 Tbsp. Lemon Juice
  7. 1 Onion, finely sliced
  8. 1 tbsp. Red chilli powder
  9. ½ tbsp. Punjabi Garam Masala
  10. 1 tbsp. Corn flour
  11. Salt
  12. 2 tbsp. Coriander leaves, minced
  13. To Assemble Burger:
  14. 2 Burger buns
  15. 2 Cheese slices
  16. 2 Lettuce leaves
  17. 1 tbsp. Green chili sauce
  18. 1 Onion, sliced round
  19. 1 Tomatoes, sliced round
  20. Mayonnaise- as required

Instructions

  1. Add rajma and black urad dal with enough water and pressure cook until soft. Drain excess water through strainer. Set aside.
  2. Add oil to a skillet/kadai and add cumin, when it splutters add sliced onions. Fry till translucent. Now add pressure cooked rajma, black urad dal and mashed potato.
  3. Fry for 2-3 minutes by adding red chili powder, salt, Punjabi garam masala. Using backside of the spoon, mash the ingredients (Alternatively you can pulse in the grinder for 30 sec) Cook till moisture disappears.
  4. Now sprinkle corn flour, minced coriander leaves and lemon juice. Mix well and shape the patties. Leave the patties on kitchen counter for 4-5 minutes.
  5. Shallow fry on low flame until the patties turn nice brown on both the sides. Remove onto a kitchen tissue.
  6. Slice the burger bun and toast it with a drop of oil or butter. Spread green chili sauce evenly on the toasted bun.
  7. Top it with lettuce, cheese slice, burger patty, onion slices, tomato slices and mayonnaise. Top with the other toasted side of the bun and insert a toothpick.
