ABOUT Healthy Lauki kofta curry(low calorie) RECIPE

This delicious curry is made of bottlegourd dumplings which are not fried but roasted in appe pan.The gravy is also made with bottlegourd and curd to give the thickness instead of cashews.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Bottle gourd-1 & 1/2cups
  2. Onion-1
  3. Gram flour-4 tbsp
  4. Rice flour-1 tbsp
  5. Carom seeds-1/2 tsp
  6. Turmeric-1/4 tsp
  7. Coriander powder-1 tsp
  8. Salt
  9. Asafoetida
  10. Red chilli powder-1/2 tsp
  11. Grated Ginger-1/2 tsp
  12. For gravy:
  13. Ginger-1 inch
  14. Garlic-8 clives
  15. Green chilli-1
  16. Onion-1 big
  17. Tomatoes-2
  18. Bottle gourd-1/2 cup
  19. Curd-1/2 cup
  20. Cumin seeds-1 tsp
  21. Oil-1 tsp
  22. Turmeric-1/2 tsp
  23. Coriander powder-1 tsp
  24. Red chilli powder-1 tsp
  25. Garam masala-1/2 tsp
  26. Kasuri methi-1/2 tsp
  27. Salt
  28. Coriander for garnishing

Instructions

  1. To prepare koftas first grate bottle gourd.
  2. Add grated onion,ginger,turmeric,red chilli powder,salt and carom seeds.
  3. Add gram flour and rice flour and bind everything together.The water from bottle gourd will be sufficient to bind everything.
  4. Now heat an appam pan and just brush it with some oil and add kofta dumplings in all moulds.
  5. Cover and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on low heat.
  6. Check whether the bottom is cooked and turn when it becomes brown.
  7. Cook the other side also similarly and remove on a plate.
  8. Now for making gravy take a teaspoon of oil in a non stick pan.Add cumin seeds.
  9. Add ginger,chilli and garlic paste.Saute for a minute.
  10. Add onion paste.saute till it is cooked and colour changes slightly.
  11. Grind tomatoes and bottlegourd together.
  12. Add this paste to pan.
  13. Saute till moisture dries and curry is cooked.add dry spices.
  14. Mix and cook for a minute.
  15. Now add the whisked curd and mix.
  16. Saute for a minute or two.
  17. Now add 1 and 1/2 cups water to get desired consistency of gravy.add garam masala and kasuri methi also.
  18. Boil for a minute and add the koftas.
  19. Cover and cook for 3 to 4 minutes so that the kofta imbibes the flavours of gravy.
  20. Garnish with coriander and serve these low fat healthy koftas with roti or rice.

Made this dish. Was quite tasty With minimum oil in cooking the koftas it turned out to be healthy too
