ABOUT Gopalkala ~ Healthy Poha Snack RECIPE

Actually, gopalkala is prasad (the food which offers to God) of Janmashtami for Lord Krishna. It is very easy and quick to prepare. This is also very nutritious and scrumptious dish. This is not necessary to make this for prasad only, you may serve this as a healthy low-cal snack.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Yogurt/Curd- 1 cup
  2. Beaten rice (Poha)- 1 cup
  3. Popped Millet/Jawar (Lahya/Lahiya)- ½ cup
  4. Fresh coconut, scrapped- 2 tbsp to ¼ cup
  5. Cucumber, chopped- 1 cup
  6. Pomegranate seeds (anar dana)- ¼ cup
  7. Green Chilies, chopped or crushed- 1 to 2
  8. Ginger, grated- ½ tsp
  9. Peanuts, roasted & peeled- ¼ cup
  10. Roasted chana dal/Pandharpuri dal- ¼ cup
  11. Rock Salt- to taste
  12. Sugar- 1 tsp
  13. Fresh coriander, finely chopped- ¼ cup
  14. Pure ghee- 1 tsp (optional)
  15. Cumin seeds- 1 tsp or cumin powder- ½ tsp

Instructions

  1. Wash and drain poha with the help of a strainer.
  2. Beat curd and add sugar & some salt.
  3. Combine curd, poha and lahya in the bowl. Allow soaking for 5 minutes.
  4. Coat the roasted chana dal with chilli powder if you like.
  5. Heat ghee in a small tadaka pan. Add cumin seeds, green chillies and saute for few seconds. Pour over the poha-curd mixture and mix well. You can omit this step. Just add cumin powder and chopped chillies into the socked poha.
  6. Add coconut, cucumber, anar dana, ginger, peanuts, masala chana dal, coriander leaves and some salt. Mix well.
  7. Serve immediately.
