ABOUT Harira RECIPE

Harira is a nutritious dish which can be enjoyed in winters.It can also be given to new mothers post delivery. In this recipe amalgamation of spices with dry fruits give unique flavour. This recipe includes dry fruits and jaggery which provides energy, turmeric powder – helps to reduce the cramps, Cumin seeds and dried ginger powder – reduces the body pain.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Dry Chopped coconut few pieces
  2. Coconut Powder 1/2 cup
  3. Makhana/Lotus Seeds 1/2 cup
  4. Chopped Almonds 1/2 cup
  5. Raisins 1/2 cup
  6. 250 Gram Crushed Jaggery
  7. dry ginger powder 1 teaspoon
  8. turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  9. Green cardamom powder 1 teaspoon
  10. Cinnamon powder 1/2 teaspoon
  11. cumin seed powder 1 teaspoon
  12. Ajwain grounded 1 teaspoon
  13. Black pepper powder 1/2 teaspoon
  14. Dry dates crushed 1 tablespoon
  15. Clarified butter/desi ghee 3 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 table spoon of clarified butter/desi ghee in a wok.
  2. Turn the flame of gas to low and add chopped dry fruits in it. Roast them till they are very light golden in color.
  3. Take out the ingredients and keep it aside until needed.
  4. Add makhana/lotus seed in wok and roast them till they turns light golden brown in color.Take them out and keep it in a bowl.
  5. Add 1 table spoon clarified butter/desi ghee in the same wok and heat it again at simmer.
  6. Now add crushed cumin seeds, grounded ajwain and black pepper powder. saute for few seconds.
  7. Add turmeric powder and dry ginger powder , saute for 2 minutes. Stir it continuously to prevent ingredients sticking at the base of wok.
  8. Add roasted dry fruits in it now. Now mix it nicely. Switch off the flame.
  9. Take a pan and add crushed jaggery and a glass of water in it. Mix it well. (if you want sweeter, then add 2 small tbsp of sugar in it.) Cook it for 10 minutes and switch off the flame.
  10. Now pour this joggery water in dry fruits mixture and keep stirring on low flame to prevent sticking. Cook it for 5 minutes more.
  11. Harira is ready. Serve warm in chilly winters.
  12. Harira can be stored in room temperature in winters upto 15 days.
