KOBBARI VADALU - coconut patties

Ingredients to make KOBBARI VADALU - coconut patties

  • Coconut - 1/3 or as available
  • Garlic pods - 4
  • Jeera - 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam masala - a pinch
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Salt - 1 tsp or as per taste
  • Rice flour - 5 sp
  • Onion - 1 small size

How to make KOBBARI VADALU - coconut patties

  1. Break coconut into pieces. Add coconut pieces, garlic pods and jeera to a small mixer. Blend finely.
  2. Chop onion finely. Add to the mixer and pulse it briefly.
  3. Add the mixture, rice flour, chilli powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder and salt to a dish and mix it to a dough. Check for binding by making a lump. Add rice flour/drops of water if needed.
  4. Divide it into 8 portions and make patties.
  5. On a non-stick griddle, add 4 sp of oil and heat in low flame. Transfer the patties to the griddle and shallow fry. Toss in between. After 10 minutes, turn the side of patties and heat the other side for required time.
My Tip: For de shelling coconut pieces, refrigerate for a while. During festivals when there is exodus of coconuts at home, an easy way to get a spicy dish out of them.
