ABOUT SIMER BICHIR DAL/BROAD BEAN SEEDS CURRY RECIPE

This is an age okd recipe of our family. Mist favourite and comfort food. This can be prepared both in veg and non veg version. It's an authentic Bengali dish.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Simer bichi /Broad bean seeds-1kg
  2. Climbing perch fish /koi mach / bring also -4/5 pieces
  3. Cumin seeds -1 tbspn
  4. Cumin powder - 1 tbspn
  5. Turmeric powder - 3/4 tbspn
  6. Coriander powder - 1 tbspn
  7. Red chilli powder - 1 tbspn
  8. Ginger paste -1 tbspn
  9. Green chillies -3/4 chopped
  10. Coriander leaves - 1 cup chopped
  11. Salt
  12. Sugar
  13. Mustard oil as required

Instructions

  1. Soak the seeds overnight. Take out the skin next morning and boil it with salt and turmeric powder.
  2. If you are non vegetarian ,use fish and vegetarians use brinjals. Cut brinjals into roundels.
  3. Marinate the fish /brinjals with salt and turmeric powder for 15 minutes. Later fry and keep aside.
  4. Take a wok add oil . Add cumin seeds let it crackle.
  5. Add ginger paste and green chillies. Fry.
  6. Add all the dry masalas including salt and sugar. Sauté well.
  7. Now add the boiled seeds . Mix well.
  8. At this point add the fish /brinjals. Mix well.If required add hot water if it's too thick. Check the consistency.
  9. Bring it to boiling point.
  10. Check the seasoning. Add the coriander leaves.
  11. Enjoy!
