Ingredients to make Vengaya Poondu Kulambu(Colon Cleanse)

  • onion 2 sliced
  • shallots 10-15
  • garlic 100 gms (25-30)
  • 2 red chillies
  • curry leaves
  • tamarind lemon size
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • salt
  • jaggery 1 tsp optional
  • Rice flour slurry optional
  • For tempering
  • Sesame oil 4-5 tbsp
  • mustard
  • 1 tsp channa dal
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp methi
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds

How to make Vengaya Poondu Kulambu(Colon Cleanse)

  1. SOAK LEMON SIZE TAMARIND FOR 20 MINUTES
  2. HEAT A KADAI. ADD 4-5 TBSP SESAME OIL
  3. ADD MUSTARD. WHEN IT CRACKS, ADD 1 TSP FENNEL SEEDS
  4. ADD 1 TSP CHANNA AND SPLIT URAD DAL
  5. WHEN DAL TURNS GOLDEN BROWN, ADD 2 SLICED ONION, 10-15 SHALLOTS, 20-30 GARLIC CLOVES
  6. ADD 2 RED CHILLIES AND CURRY LEAVES
  7. SAUTE TILL ONION TURNS TRANSLUCENT AND GARLIC CHANGES COLOUR. THEN ADD TAMARIND EXTRACT
  8. ADD REQUIRED SALT
  9. ADD 1/2 TSP TURMERIC POWDER AND 1 TSP RED CHILLI POWDER
  10. WHEN KULAMBU IS BOILING, ADD JAGGERY (OPTIONAL)
  11. ADD RICE FLOUR SLURRY TO THICKEN THE GRAVY (OPTIONAL)
  12. WHEN OIL SEPARATES FROM KULUMBU, TURN OFF THE FLAME
