Ingredients to make Steamy Rice Dumplings

  • Raw rice - 2 Cups
  • curry leaves - Handful
  • cumin Seeds - 1 tbsp
  • mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • urad dal - 1 tbsp
  • Red Dry Chillies - 4
  • 1 Cup grated coconut

How to make Steamy Rice Dumplings

  1. Wash and soak the rice for 8 hours.
  2. Add in the Curry leaves and cumin seeds into the mortar and do a coarse grind. The batter need not be smooth.
  3. Check in the salt.
  4. Heat up a wide pan with enough oil - around 6 - 8 tbsp, add in the mustard, urad. Let them sizzle. Add finely grated coconut and season some salt. Add in the red chillies as well.
  5. After 3 minutes, pour in the batter and mix well until there exists a medium soft dough consistency.
  6. Place the steam vessel on stove. Prepare small dumplings out of the dough, place on the steamer and steam well covered for 8 mins at the max.
