Vegetable semiya

Ingredients to make Vegetable semiya

  • oil - 3 teaspoon
  • hing
  • mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • curry leaves
  • green chilly - 2 or 3
  • Channa dal - 1 teaspoon
  • onion - 1
  • turmeric Powder- 1/2 teaspoon
  • ginger - 1 teaspoon
  • carrot - 1
  • Beans - 5
  • peas - 1 handful
  • salt - as needed
  • water - 1 1/2 cup
  • Vermicelli - 1 cup
  • coriander Leaves - To Garnish

How to make Vegetable semiya

  1. Chop onions and green chillies. Set aside.
  2. Wash and chop carrot and beans. Steam the veggies for 3 whistles and set aside.
  3. Take a pan and add 1 teaspoon of oil and saute vermicelli till it becomes golden Color. This gives us non sticky semiya.
  4. Heat a pan and add oil. Add mustard seeds when it begins to crackle add Channa dal, hing, curry leaves, onion , turmeric powder,green chillies, ginger.
  5. Saute till onion turns translucent.
  6. Add boiled veggies and saute for 2 mins.
  7. Add water and salt.
  8. Allow the water to boil well.
  9. Add vermecelli and cook till it absorbs all the water . Garnish with coriander leaves.

My Tip:

Adding more water turns semiya mushy.If you are making plain semiya 1 cup of water is enough to make non sticky semiya.
