ABOUT The Italian-American classic- Spaghetti and meatballs! RECIPE

Succulent meatballs in a rich, delicious tomato sauce served on spaghetti, is a beloved Italian-American dish! There are a few food-combinations which go as well as spaghetti and meat-balls. This is simple recipe which results in a fine-dining meal for your family, right in your home's living room!

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. For the meat-balls-
  2. 250 grams of pork/beef mince
  3. 2 tbsn breadcrumbs
  4. 1 tbsn ginger-garlic paste
  5. 1 onion, grated. SQUEEZE OUT AS MUCH WATER AS YOU CAN FROM IT!!
  6. Salt and pepper to taste
  7. 1 tsp red chilly powder (optional)
  8. 2 tbsn olive oil to shallow fry
  9. For the sauce-
  10. 3-4 tbsn olive oil
  11. 1 large onion, finely chopped
  12. 500 ml of vegetable stock
  13. 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  14. 1 sprig of thyme
  15. 1 bay-leaf
  16. 1 can of chopped tomatoes
  17. Some fresh basil, chopped
  18. 2-3 tbsn red wine
  19. 1 tsp italian seasoning
  20. Salt and pepper to taste
  21. 1 pack spaghetti
  22. Some grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Put all the ingredients for the meatballs in a large bowl and knead it together like a dough. Shape into medium sized balls.
  2. In a non-stick pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Shallow fry all the meat-balls together. Cook till they are completely done and transfer to a plate. Set aside.
  3. Now, make your sauce. Heat the olive oil. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Saute until tender. Add the full can of chopped tomatoes and give it a nice stir. Also add your wine! Cook for around 5-6 mins.
  4. Add the stock and season your sauce with salt, pepper and Italian seasonings. Throw in your thyme & bayleaf. Keep on simmer and let it reduce covered, for 20 mins or till you get the desired thick, saucy consistency. Stir every 5 mins.
  5. Next, gently place the meatballs in the sauce. Mix gently. Cook on low flame for more 6-7 minutes. Add some fresh basil leaves and switch off the flame. Your sauce is ready to serve!
  6. Cook the pasta according to the packet instructions. Sprinkle with some extra virgin olive oil. Transfer the pasta immediately to a plate or a bowl and serve a portion of hot sauce and meatballs on top of it.
  7. Add a fine grating of Parmesan cheese and garnish with salt & pepper. Serve immediately! Enjoy!
