ABOUT Chakka Varatharachu Curry (Jacfruit roasted masala gravy) RECIPE

Jackfruit is widely available in Kerala, I miss that here in Hyderabad. I found this raw tender Jackfruit in Hyderabad and just remembered my mom's all time secret recipe which i relished since my childhood. This dish exactly taste like non veg curry hence it is well known for non- veg for vegetarian people.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Jackfruit- 250 gm chopped in to bite size pieces
  2. Onion- 1 thinly sliced
  3. Coconut slices- chopped finely 2 tbsp
  4. Tomato-1 finely chopped
  5. Ginger & Garlic paste or chopped ginger garlic 1 tbsp
  6. Curry leaves- a sprigs
  7. Coriander powder- 1 tbsp
  8. Chilly powder- 1 tsp
  9. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  10. For ground masala:-
  11. Grated coconut-1 cup
  12. Cinnamon- 1 stick small size
  13. Black pepper- 1 tbsp
  14. For Tadka
  15. Coconut oil or any oil of ur choice
  16. Salt to taste
  17. Mustard seeds
  18. Dry Red chillies-2 nos
  19. curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Heat pan and dry roast grated coconut, black pepper and cinnamon until coconut turns dark brown in color. set aside and cool down once roasted well.
  2. Grind to a paste adding water and set aside
  3. Heat oil in a cooker and fry coconut slices,onion,ginger garlic paste, tomato and Jackfruit pieces for 7-8 mins, add salt and turmeric powder, chilly powder and coriander powder roast well until the raw smell goes off.
  4. Now add ground coconut masala and stir well until it coats well with jackfruit. Add water and cover the lid of cooker. Cook this for 2 whistle.
  5. Now for tadka, heat coconut oil add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter, add red chillies, curryleaves.
  6. Add this tadka on top of the curry and cover with lid once again to absorb all flavor of coconut and spices.
  7. Goes well with rice or chapati.
