Ingredients to make Chakka Varatharachu Curry (Jacfruit roasted masala gravy)

  • Jackfruit- 250 gm chopped in to bite size pieces
  • onion- 1 thinly sliced
  • coconut slices- chopped finely 2 tbsp
  • tomato-1 finely chopped
  • ginger & Garlic paste or chopped ginger garlic 1 tbsp
  • curry leaves- a sprigs
  • coriander powder- 1 tbsp
  • chilly powder- 1 tsp
  • turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  • For ground masala:-
  • Grated coconut-1 cup
  • cinnamon- 1 stick small size
  • Black pepper- 1 tbsp
  • For Tadka
  • coconut oil or any oil of ur choice
  • salt to taste
  • mustard seeds
  • Dry Red chillies-2 nos
  • curry leaves

How to make Chakka Varatharachu Curry (Jacfruit roasted masala gravy)

  1. Heat pan and dry roast grated coconut, black pepper and cinnamon until coconut turns dark brown in color. set aside and cool down once roasted well.
  2. Grind to a paste adding water and set aside
  3. Heat oil in a cooker and fry coconut slices,onion,ginger garlic paste, tomato and Jackfruit pieces for 7-8 mins, add salt and turmeric powder, chilly powder and coriander powder roast well until the raw smell goes off.
  4. Now add ground coconut masala and stir well until it coats well with jackfruit. Add water and cover the lid of cooker. Cook this for 2 whistle.
  5. Now for tadka, heat coconut oil add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter, add red chillies, curryleaves.
  6. Add this tadka on top of the curry and cover with lid once again to absorb all flavor of coconut and spices.
  7. Goes well with rice or chapati.

My Tip:

Tips:- Do not wash Jackfruit. it is cut and directly used for cutting.
