Ingredients to make Malabar Fish Curry - Kerala

  • 300 gms Sea fish
  • 1.5 cup grated coconut
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1-2 green chili sliced
  • 1 lemonsized tamarind
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1.5 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp fish masala ( optional)
  • 1-2 sprig curry leaves
  • 1.5 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 3 shallots or 1 small onion thinly sliced
  • Earthen vessel for cooking

How to make Malabar Fish Curry - Kerala

  1. INGREDIENTS
  2. SOAK TAMARIND IN WARM WATER
  3. GRIND TURMERIC AND COCONUT WITH LITTLE WATER TO FORM PUREE
  4. TRANSFER PUREE TO EARTHEN VESSEL, ADD 1 CUP WATER
  5. ADD GREEN CHILLIES, RED CHILLI POWDER, GINGER AND FISH MASALA
  6. ADD SALT TAMARIND PULP, MIX WELL. BRING TO BOIL
  7. ADD FISH PIECES, MIX GENTLY
  8. COOK UNTIL FISH IS TENDER. SHOULD TAKE 8-10 MINUTES
  9. HEAT COCONUT OIL, SPLUTTER MUSTARD SEEDS
  10. ADD SHALLOTS OR ONION, SAUTE UNTIL TRANSLUCENT
  11. ADD CURRY LEAVES, MIX WELL
  12. POUR THE SEASONING OVER FISH CURRY. GENTLY MIX AND COOK FOR A MINUTE. SWITCH OFF. COVER UNTIL SERVED
  13. SERVE HOT WITH RICE
