  • Split Black urad dal 1 heaped cup
  • Idly rice or Boiled rice 4 cups
  • methi 1 tsp
  • salt

How to make Karuppu Ulundu Idly (Split Black Gram Idly)

  1. ADD 1 HEAPING CUP SPLIT BLACK URAD DAL
  2. ADD 4 CUPS OF BOILED RICE
  3. ADD 1 TSP METHI
  4. RINSE THEM 4-6 TIMES. ADD REQUIRED WATER TO SOAK
  5. SOAK FOR 6 HOURS
  6. AFTER 6 HOURS
  7. DISTURB THE MIXTURE
  8. POUR STOCK IN ANOTHER VESSEL TO PARTIALLY REMOVE BLACK URAD DAL SKIN
  9. REPEAT THE PROCESS TO PARTIALLY REMOVE SKIN. RESERVE STOCK
  10. ADD LENTIL AND RICE IN BLENDER. ADD RESERVED STOCK
  11. GRIND TO SMOOTH BATTER. ADD REQUIRED SALT. MIX
  12. ALLOW TO FERMENT
  13. AFTER 6-8 HOURS, MIX FERMENTED BATTER
  14. FILL BATTER IN IDLI MOULDS
  15. STEAM COOK FOR 10-15 MINUTES
  16. CHECK IF IDLIES ARE COOKED
