Ingredients to make Vazhaipoo Usili

  • 1/2 cup soaked channa dal
  • 5 Red chillies
  • hing 1/4 tsp
  • turmeric pinch
  • salt
  • For Usili
  • banana florets chopped 1 cup
  • salt
  • To Temper
  • oil
  • mustard
  • Split urad dal 1 tsp
  • hing 1/2 tsp
  • curry leaves

How to make Vazhaipoo Usili

  1. SOAK 1/2 CUP CHANNA DAL FOR 1 HOUR
  2. ADD SOAKED CHANNA DAL, 5 RED CHILLIES AND 1/4 TSP HING IN BLENDER
  3. ADD PINCH OF TURMERIC AND REQUIRED SALT. GRIND TO SMOOTH PASTE
  4. ADD THE PASTE TO GREASED PLATE
  5. STEAM FOR 10-15 MINUTES TO COOK DAL. REST FOR 10 MINUTES TO COOL.
  6. CRUMBLE THE CAKE
  7. TAKE BANANA FLORET. REMOVE CALYX AND PISTIL AS SHOWN
  8. CLEAN FLORET IN RUNNING WATER AND CHOP THEM
  9. ADD OIL IN KADAI. ADD MUSTARD AND ALLOW TO CRACK. ADD 1 TSP SPLIT URAD DAL
  10. ADD HING AND CURRY LEAVES
  11. ADD CHOPPED FLORET
  12. ADD SALT AND COOK FLORET ON LOW FLAME
  13. WHEN THE FLORETS ARE COOKED, ADD CRUMBLED DAL
  14. MIX GENTLY FOR 2-3 MINUTES
  15. SERVE HOT
