Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For koftas- 250 gms peeled Jackfruits, cut into small pieces
  2. chopped onion 1 medium sized
  3. chopped green chilli
  4. ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  5. coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  6. cumin powder 1/2 tsp
  7. garam masala powder 2 tsp
  8. gram flour 2 tsp
  9. salt to taste
  10. chopped coriander leaves
  11. mustard oil for deep fry
  12. For gravy-
  13. 2 medium onion
  14. ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  15. tomato puree 2 tsp
  16. chopped green chilies 2
  17. curd 2 tbsp
  18. black cardamom 2
  19. bay leaf 2
  20. cumin seed 1/2 tsp
  21. turmeric powder 1 tsp
  22. cumin powder 1 tsp
  23. coriander powder 1 tsp
  24. red chili powder 1 tsp
  25. black pepper powder 1/2 tsp
  26. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  27. ghee 1 tbsp
  28. mustard oil
  29. sliced green chili
  30. coriander leaves to garnish

Instructions

  1. For the balls(koftas)-
  2. Boil the jackfruit in a pressure cooker with a little salt until soft. Drain and allow cooling.
  3. Mash the jackfruits in a mixing bowl, and then add chopped onion, green chillies, coriander pwd, cumin pwd, garam masala, chopped coriander, salt and mash together to incorporate. Then mix the gram flour and garlic paste to bind.
  4. Divide the mixture into 10-12 parts and shape into small oval or round kofta balls.
  5. Heat enough oil and deep fry the koftas until golden brown and crisp on the outside. Strain on a kitchen tissue and keep aside.
  6. For gravy-
  7. Heat oil in a pan, add the bay leaves, cumin, cardamom, cinnamon and let them pop. Add sliced onion and fry until golden.
  8. Then add ginger garlic paste and onion paste, fry for 1-2 mins on medium heat. Add turmeric, chilli pwd, coriander pwd, cumin pwd and fry until the oil starts to separate.
  9. Then add tomato paste, little salt and ghee , fry until oil separates. The add 1 and ½ cup water and allow the gravy to come to a full boil , then simmer away until it slightly thickens, it will take 5-7 mins.
  10. Then stir in pepper pwd, curd and simmer for another 1-2 minutes. Finally add the fried koftas, sprinkle garam masala pwd and turn off the heat. Keep covered for 4-5 mins then serve with rice or chapattis with a garnish og coriander and green chilies.
