Plantain stem kootu

Ingredients to make Plantain stem kootu

  • banana stem -300 gm
  • Toor dal-75 gm
  • Chopped onion -1
  • Chopped tomato -1
  • chilli powder-1/4 tsp
  • turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  • For tempering:-
  • oil -1 tbsp
  • mustard -1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal-1/2 tsp
  • asafoetida- 2 pinch.
  • curry leaves - few
  • To grind:-
  • Grated coconut -4 tbsp
  • Green chilli -2

How to make Plantain stem kootu

  1. CUT BANANA STEM INTO SMALL PIECES.
  2. THEN ADD THE CHOPPED BANANA STEMS TO THE BUTTER MILK TO AVOID COLOUR CHANGING.
  3. SOAK IN BUTTER MILK AND KEEP IT ASIDE.
  4. KEEP ALL THE INGREDIENTS READY.
  5. IN A PRESSURE COOKER ADD SOAKED DAL AND BANANA STEM.
  6. THEN ADD CHOPPED ONION,TOMATO,CHILLI POWDER AND TURMERIC POWDER.
  7. MIX WELL.
  8. CLOSE AND PRESSURE COOK FOR 2-3 WHISTLES.
  9. GRIND THE COCONUT AND GREEN CHILLIES.
  10. GRIND IT COARSELY.
  11. AFTER PRESSURE RELEASE OPEN THE COOKER.
  12. MIX WELL.
  13. ADD SALT AND CHOPPED CORIANDER LEAVES
  14. THEN ADD GROUND COCONUT
  15. FOR TEMPERING, HEAT OIL,ADD MUSTARD, URAD DAL,CURRY LEAVES AND ASAFOETIDA.
  16. TRANSFER IT TO THE BANANA STEM KOOTU.
  17. DELICIOUS HEALTHY BANANA STEM KOOTU IS READY.
  18. SERVE AND ENJOY WITH HOT STEAMED RICE.

My Tip:

Adding 3 garlic cloves and 1/2 tsp jeera while grind coconut is optional.
