Chicken Curry

Ingredients to make Chicken Curry

  • Whole chicken 1 kg
  • Red onion 3 medium (sliced)
  • Ginger garlic chilli paste - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard oil 250 ml
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Cumin powder 1 tbsp
  • coriander powder 1 tbsp
  • Yogurt (blend) 1/4 cup
  • Black Pepper 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Bay leaf - 2
  • Dry red chilli 1-2
  • Black cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Green Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp (chopped)
  • Water 1 cup (boiled) for gravy or as required
  • Whole garam masala paste:
  • 1 big cardamom
  • 4 green cardamom
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • Roasted coriander seed - 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp Mace

How to make Chicken Curry

  1. Clean, wash and dry chicken pieces. Keep aside. Heat oil in a deep pan, add bay leaf , black cumin seeds and dry red chillies. Add onion till it becomes pink in color. Add ginger garlic chilli paste. Cook till the raw aroma goes.
  2. Add chicken and saute for 5 minutes. Add all spices, yogurt and salt. Cook till it starts leaving oil.
  3. Once chicken is almost cooked add whole garam masala paste. Cook till it gives a nice aroma. Add water to get a nice consistency.
  4. Boil gravy for 5-10 minutes on med-hi flame. Turn off the heat, add green coriander leaves. Serve with chapati or steamed rice
