Chicken Thokku/South Indian Chicken Curry

Ingredients to make Chicken Thokku/South Indian Chicken Curry

  • 1/2 kg chicken
  • 2 nos Onions (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 nos whole spices (bay leaves, cardamom, cloves, cinnamonstick)
  • 2 tbsp Vinegar/balsamic vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil as required
  • Chopped coriander leaves
  • To Roast and Grind:
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp Peppercorns
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds

How to make Chicken Thokku/South Indian Chicken Curry

  1. Marinate the chicken with chilli powder, turmeric powder and lemon juice for half an hour.
  2. In a pan, heat enough oil and fry the whole spices. Immediately add the chopped onions with ginger-garlic paste and cook until the raw smell goes away. Add the marinated chicken to the cooking veggies and cook for few minutes.
  3. Meanwhile dry roast all the spices given under the list and grind as fine powder.
  4. Cook the chicken in simmer, until it gets half cooked. Now add the freshly grounded spice powder, balsamic vinegar and cook everything again for few more minutes on a medium flame until the oil gets separated from the chicken thokku.
  5. Add the coriander leaves and turn off the stove. Serve it hot!
