ABOUT Homemade Italian Piadina/Piada bread RECIPE

On my last trip to Italy, I ate these with a variety of fillings off every street corner.. at home my favourite filling is grilled chicken and salad. A cross between Pita bread and tortillas, these soft and chewy piadinas can easily be used as a basic wrap.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. 4 cups Plain flour
  2. 2 tbsp Softened butter
  3. 1 tsp Salt
  4. 1 tbsp baking powder
  5. Water as required for kneading

Instructions

  1. Combine salt, baking powder and flour together in a large bowl.
  2. Rub in the butter and add water to knead into a smooth dough.
  3. The dough should be just like chapati dough. Leave to rest for half an hour.
  4. Pinch off balls and roll out like chapatis. Prick with a fork all over.
  5. Heat a heavy skillet and roast the piadinas till brown specks appear on both sides.
  6. Keep covered till ready to use. Can be wrapped and stored for a couple of days.
