ABOUT Nan Khatai RECIPE

Nan khatai is an authentic Indian shortbread biscuits popular in India and Pakistan. Nan kahtai can be easily prepared at home. these eggless Indian cookies are made with refined flour, gram flour, sugar, clarified butter and flavored with green cardamom powder, some time add semolina also.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Refined flour 1 cup
  2. Gram flour 2 tbsp
  3. Fine semolina 2 tbsp
  4. A pinch of Baking Soda
  5. Desi ghee 1 cup
  6. Powdered sugar 1 cup
  7. Green cardamom powder 1 tsp
  8. Chopped pistachios 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl, mix in refined flour, gram flour, semolina, cardamom powder and soda.
  3. Cream together the ghee and sugar until it is well blended.
  4. Add the flour mixture to the ghee mixture and knead them together to make a smooth dough. Put this mixture in the fridge for about 1 hour.
  5. Remove the dough from the fridge and make small size balls, press each ball between your palms lightly.
  6. With a sharp knife draw a tic-tac design on the top and put in chopped pistachios, press them into the dough gently.
  7. Put these balls on a greased baking tray and bake at 180 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until the nan khatai are lightly golden brown in colour.
  8. Serve them warm for best taste.
