Banana Stem Kootu

Ingredients to make Banana Stem Kootu

  • banana stem -300 gm
  • Toor dal-75 gm
  • Chopped onion -1
  • Chopped tomato -1
  • chilli powder-1/4 tsp
  • turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  • For tempering:-
  • oil -1 tbsp
  • mustard -1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal-1/2 tsp
  • asafoetida- 2 pinch.
  • curry leaves - few
  • To grind:-
  • Grated coconut -4 tbsp
  • Green chilli -2

How to make Banana Stem Kootu

  1. CHOP 300 GMS BANANA STEM INTO SMALL PIECES
  2. SOAK IN 2 CUPS BUTTERMILK, KEEP ASIDE
  3. ADD 75 GMS PRE SOAKED ARHAR DAL & THE BANANA STEM TO A PRESSURE COOKER
  4. ADD 1 EACH OF A CHOPPED ONION & TOMATO, 1/4 TSP RED CHILLI POWDER, 1/2 TSP TURMERIC
  5. PRESSURE COOK UPTO 2-3 WHISTLES
  6. COARSELY GRIND 4 TBSP FRESH COCONUT, 2 GREEN CHILLIES
  7. ADD SALT, 2 TBSP CHOPPED CORIANDER LEAVES TO THE COOKED DAL-BANANA STEM MIX
  8. ADD GROUND COCONUT-CHILLI MIX
  9. HEAT 1 TBSP OIL, ADD 1/2 TSP EACH OF MUSTARD SEEDS & URAD DAL, FEW CURRY LEAVES, 1/4 TSP ASAFOETIDA
  10. ADD THIS TO THE SIMMERING DAL-BANANA STEM, MIX & TAKE OFF HEAT
  11. SERVE HOT
