Chicken Dak Bungalow

Ingredients to make Chicken Dak Bungalow

  • 500 gms chicken, cut into small pieces
  • 4 potatoes, cut into two halves
  • 2 onions, roughly chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 4 green chillies
  • 5 red whole chillies
  • 4 black cardamons
  • 1 tsp whole cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp whole coriander seeds
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 8-10 cloves
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric paste
  • 1/2 cup mustard oil
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 2 cups water
  • Salt as needed

How to make Chicken Dak Bungalow

  1. Dry roast the whole red chillies, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and cardamons. Grind coarsely them together with a mortar and pestle.
  2. Now coarsely grind the onion, ginger, garlic and green chillies and keep aside.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai and fry the potatoes with a little salt and turmeric. Keep aside.
  4. In the same oil add the cloves and bay leaves and fry until fragrant. Add chicken pieces and fry in full flame until the chicken turns nice and brown in colour.
  5. Lower the flame and add the ground onion paste and fry until the oil separates. Add the ground dry powder and fry until it turns fragrant. Add the turmeric paste (mix 1/2 tsp turmeric powder with 1 tbsp water) and salt and keep frying.
  6. Add water and bring it to a rolling boil, then add the potatoes. Cover and cook for 10 mins and adjust the salt as per taste.
  7. Finally add a tsp of ghee and mix well and it is ready to be served.
My Tip: This dish goes best with steaming hot rice or chapatis.
