About Sambhar Recipe

Sambhar is such a delicious recipe of the dal, to be served with idli, dosa or plain steamed rice. This is how I make it at home.

Ingredients to make Sambhar

  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • chilly powder - 1 tsp
  • Sambar powder - 1 tbsp
  • salt
  • curry leaves 10
  • mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • tomato [chopped] - 1
  • Fried onion paste - 2 tbsp
  • Refined oil/ghee

How to make Sambhar

  1. Heat a pressure cooker pan with some oil. Add mustard seeds followed by the curry leaves.
  2. Now add rest of the ingredients, one by one and give it a good mix.
  3. Now add required amount of water and close the lid. Cook for 4-5 whistles of until the dal is cooked.
  4. Open the lid, check for seasoning and serve hot.
