Chicken (Mutton) Nihari

Ingredients to make Chicken (Mutton) Nihari

  • 1 kg boneless chicken
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 100 gms wheat flour, soaked in 2 cups of water
  • Cooking oil to suit you
  • 1 packet Shan Nihari masala, mixed in 1/2 cup water

How to make Chicken (Mutton) Nihari

  1. Heat some oil, add the chicken and masala paste and stir fry until the oil separates from it. Add water and pressure cook until the chicken is just cooked.
  2. Gradually add the flour paste into the chicken while stirring all the time. Bring it to a boil and cook for another 15 mins, while stirring occasionally.
  3. In another pan, stir fry the onions with oil until they turn golden, then add them to the meat. Cover and simmer for about 15 mins.
  4. Garnish with sliced green chillies, julienned ginger, lime, coriander, or any ingredients of your choice and serve.

My Tip:

This is a Pakistani national dish and it is usually cooked with mutton or beef on the bone. The cooking time will depend on the type of meat you choose.
