A simple and cumin flavoured healthy porridge with banana flower.

Banana Flower - Cumin Porridge

Ingredients to make Banana Flower - Cumin Porridge

  • banana Flower 30
  • cumin 2 tsp
  • Grated ginger 1.5 tsp
  • Raw rice/seeraka samba rice 1/2 cup
  • moong dal 1/4 cup
  • shallots 10 fine chopped
  • tomato 1 fine chopped
  • coriander leaves a few
  • salt as req.
  • water 4 to 5 cups
  • Gingelly oil 2 tsp

How to make Banana Flower - Cumin Porridge

  1. Clean the banana flowers, chop and put it in thin buttermilk until usage.
  2. In a pressure cooker, pour oil, add the cumin seeds, shallots, tomato, grated ginger, banana flower(after squeezing the buttermilk), everything one by one, and saute very well in between.
  3. Next, add the washed rice and moongdal, and saute for a minute.
  4. Now, pour the water, add salt, mix well, and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  5. Finally, open the lid, add the coriander leaves, and mix well. Serve hot.

My Tip:

You can use onions too, and any oil as per your wish. You can also cook in kadai instead of pressure cooker.
