ABOUT Arachi Vitta Kozhi Kuzhambu/Chicken Gravy with Grounded Masala RECIPE

A flavorful chicken gravy prepared with a grounded masala. This chicken gravy is definitely a fabulous dish if you ran out of spice powders like coriander powder and chilly powder.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1/2kg Chicken (cut as medium pieces)
  2. 10 Shallots (chopped)
  3. 2 Green chillies (slit opened)
  4. 1teaspoon Ginger garlic paste
  5. 1/4tsp Turmeric powder
  6. Coriander leaves (chopped as per need)
  7. 1teaspoon Vadagam/Sun dried seasoning or else 1tsp Mustard seeds+Urad dal
  8. Salt

  10. To Grind:
  11. 4 Dry red chillies
  12. 1 tablespoon Poppy seeds
  13. 2tablespoons Coriander seeds
  14. 1/2teaspoon Cumin seeds
  15. 1teaspoon Fennel seeds
  16. 1/4cup Coconut (grated)

Instructions

  1. Cook the chicken pieces, shallots, ginger garlic paste, green chillies,salt with turmeric powder in enough water until they turns soft.
  2. Meanwhile heat few drops of oil, fry the dry red chillies, poppy seeds, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds one by one until they turns golden brown.
  3. Finally dry roast the coconut,take everything together and grind as thick paste with enough water.
  4. Heat enough oil, fry the thalippu vadagam/Mustard seeds+urad dal until they turns brown, add the curry leaves and fry until they turns crispy.
  5. Add the grounded masala and stir for a while (take care not to burn the grounded masala and dont fry for a long)
  6. Add the cooked chicken with cooked water, (add water if need) to the masala, bring everything to boil. Check for salt and add if needed.
  7. Cook until the kuzhambu/gravy turns thick, put off the stove.
  8. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve.
