Moong dal halwa is a classic dessert that originated in Rajasthan and is now famous all over the world for its rich taste. This traditional halwa is mostly prepared during winter months with yellow split mung dal, pure ghee, saffron and nuts.The preparation requires a good amount of stirring to roast the dal well and as a result it is reserved for special festivals and occassions.In Rajasthan, it is considered auspicious to make the moong dal halwa at home, and it is usually prepared during Holi and Diwali. It is also a must in the menu during weddings specially taking place during the winter season. This rich and delicious halwa requires patience and time, but is totally worth it. Instant moong dal halwa


  • Moong dal : 2 cup
  • Milk: 2 cup
  • Water 2 cup
  • Ghee 1 cup
  • Sugar 1 cup or as per your taste
  • Raisins 2 tsp
  • Soaked almonds 2 tsp
  • Half tsp elachi powder


  1. Firstly use wet cloth to clean dal.
  2. Then without ghee roast it in pan for 3-4 min till its raw smell goes.
  3. Then grind it to fine powder in mixer like besan type.
  4. Then take ghee in pan. To it add powder of dal. Cook for 5 min till it gets fluffy n ghee comes on sides at medium to high flame
  5. Then add to it elachi powder. Then water first next milk n sugar mix well fast . so that no lumps are formed
  6. Cook for a while say 5-7 min .keep on stirring constantly. Add kishmish n sliced almonds. You can add to it one big spoon of ghee (hot)/
  7. Finally garnish with almonds
