ABOUT Spicy Tomato Chutney RECIPE

A fiery and tangy chutney to go with Idlis and Dosas or as a dip for any snack.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 3 medium tomatoes
  2. 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  3. 3 cloves garlic
  4. salt as needed
  5. 2 tbsp Oil
  6. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  7. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  8. a pinch of asafoedita
  9. 1 sprig curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Quarter the tomatoes and peel the garlic. Blend the tomatoes with garlic , salt and chilli powder to a fine puree.
  2. In a small pan / kadai heat 2 tbsp of oil and once hot add the mustard seeds. When they splutter add asafoedita, cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  3. Add the ground tomato mixture to the tadka and let it cook . Add some water and allow it cook for atleast 7 - 8 minutes.
  4. Cook the chutney till the tomatoes are cooked fully and the raw smell of chilli powder fades away.
  5. The chutney turns thicker and oil starts oozing out from the corners. Turn off stove and allow to cool. Serve with hot idlis/dosas
