Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Urad dal 1 cup
  2. Raw rice 1 tablespoon
  3. Green chillies 6
  4. Ginger 1.5 inches
  5. Jeera 1 teaspoon
  6. Curry leaves few
  7. Onion 1 finely chopped
  8. Salt accordingly
  9. Coriander leaves 1 fistful
  10. Fresh Curd 2 cups
  11. Milk 50 ml
  12. Grated coconut 1 tablespoon
  13. Asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon
  14. Oil for frying
  15. Grated carrots 2 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. SOAK 1 CUP URAD DAL WITH 1 TABLESPOON RAW RICE FOR 45 MINUTES
  2. WASH AND DRAIN WATER
  3. LIKE THIS
  4. TAKE 4 CHILLIES AND AN ICH OF GINGER - CHOPPED
  5. ADD THEM IN A GRINDER
  6. THIS IS ADDED FIRST TO ENSURE EVEN GRINDING
  7. ADD THE SOAKED URAD DAL
  8. SCRAP THE SIDES OCCASIONALLY
  9. ADD 1 TEASPOON SALTAND ADD VERY LESS WATER WHILE GRINDING
  10. YOU SHOULD GET A THICK STIFF PEAKED BATTER LIKE THIS
  11. ADD 1 TEASPOON JEERA
  12. ADD FEW CURRY LEAVES
  13. COLLECT THE BATTER
  14. CHOP 1 ONION AND FISTFUL OF CORIANDER LEAVES FINELY
  15. ADD THE CHOPPED ONIONS AND CORIANDER LEAVES TO THE BATTER AND MIX WELL
  16. HEAT 200 ML OIL IN A KADAI
  17. ADD 2 GREEN CHILLIES,1/2INCH GINGER,AND FEW CORIANDER LEAVES IN A MIXER JAR
  18. ADD 1 TABLESPOON GRATED COCONUT
  19. GRIND COARSELY AND ADD TO 2 CUPS OF FRESH CURD
  20. ADD 50 ML MILK
  21. ADD 1/2 TEASPOON SALT
  22. WHISK WELL
  23. WARM 1 CUP WATER WITH 2 TABLESPOONS OF MILK
  24. IN A TADKA PAN HEAT OIL AND ADD MUSTARD
  25. ADD CURRY LEAVES AND ASAFOETIDA
  26. ADD THE TEMPERING TO THE CURD MIX
  27. THICHA THAYIR FOR VADAI IS READY
  28. FRY THE MEDHUVADA IN OIL
  29. ONCE GOLDEN BROWN, REMOVE AND ADD IN THE WARM MILK WATER
  30. NOW ADD INTO THE CURD MIXTURE. THIS IS TO ENSURE SOFT VADAIS
  31. TANJORE THAYIR VADAI IS READY. SERVE AFTER AN HOUR WITH GRATED CARROT,CORIANDERLEAVES FOR GARNISHING
