About Brigadeiros – condensed milk truffles Recipe

Brigadeiros are Brazil’s most common and most beloved delicacy. It means Brigadier in Portugese. They are staples for everyday eating as well as special occasions. They are variedly called as Brazilian candy, Brazilian truffles or Brazilian fudge balls. They need just 3 ingredients . This authentic recipe is from Street Smart Brazil . You can choose to roll the balls in chocolate vermicelli, sprinkles, cocoa or chopped nuts !

Brigadeiros – condensed milk truffles

Ingredients to make Brigadeiros – condensed milk truffles

  • 400 grams or 1 big tin sweetened condensed milk (I used Nestle Milkmaid)
  • 3 tablespoons or 25 grams cocoa powder
  • 4 tablespoons or 56 grams butter
  • chocolate vermicelli / nuts /sprinkles to coat

How to make Brigadeiros – condensed milk truffles

  1. Melt the butter in a non stick pan. Once the butter has melted add in the condensed milk and mix . Add the cocoa powder (dissolved in little water) and mix. Heat while stirring with a wooden spoon.
  2. Continue until it thickens and you can see the bottom of the pan (like in picture) . The mixture should coat the back of your spoon . This might take 15-20 mins.
  3. Spread it onto a plate ( stainless steel should be good) or baking tray or foil/ parchment and chill for about 30 minutes to firm it up.
  4. Take spoonfuls of this mixture in your greased (with butter) hands and make balls. You could use teaspoonfuls and make small ones or tablespoonfuls for big ones.
  5. Roll in the sprinkles/cocoa/nuts. Place all the rolled truffles in the fridge for another 30 minutes to firm up.

My Tip:

This recipe made around 25 Brigadeiros of about 1 .5 cm diameter You can increase the cocoa powder to 4 or 5 tbsps for a deeper chocolatey and less sweeter version.
