Ingredients to make Oats Sweet Paniyaram / Oats Paniyaram / Oats Appam

  • Ingredients: Oats - 1 cup (heaped)
  • Rice flour- 1/2 cup
  • Wheat flour- 1 cup
  • Maida / All purpose flour - 2 tbsp (optional)
  • Curd - 2 tbsp
  • Bananas- 2 medium sized
  • Cardamom powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Grated coconut - 2 tbsp
  • Baking soda- a pinch
  • Salt- a pinch
  • Jaggery - 1 cup (powdered) / 2 blocks

How to make Oats Sweet Paniyaram / Oats Paniyaram / Oats Appam

  1. In a pan, mix jaggery and water and boil till it melts. Keep aside and allow it to cool.
  2. In a separate bowl, add oats, wheat flour, rice flour, salt, cardamom powder and coconut. Mix well. After that add the mashed bananas and curd. Give it a mix. Pour the filtered jaggery syrup over the flour and banana mixture to prepare a batter.
  3. Add water if necessary. Heat the kuzhipaniyaram pan, add 1 to 2 tsp oil or ghee into each hole. Pour the batter in each hole and allow it to cook in a medium flame.
  4. Allow to cook till both sides turn golden brown in colour. Serve hot.

My Tip:

If you don't have kuzhipaniyaram pan, just deep fry . Heat oil in a pan, drop spoonfuls of batter in the oil and fry till it gets golden brown and crisp (cook this on a medium flame). Remove from oil and place on a tissue to drain out the excess oil. Serve it hot.
