About Wood apple (Bael) curry Recipe

Wood apple (Bael) curry, a simple side-dish recipe is an Indian curry prepared from ripe wood apple and other condiments. It is a delicious and aromatic gravy with bursting of mixed flavors like sweet, spicy n tangy along with the goodness and benefits of wood apple. Wood apple has great medicinal value .It is great for digestion , purifies the blood and also boosts the immune system, fights off bacterial and viral infections and reduces inflammatory conditions. Wood apple curry can be very easily prepared at home and relished any time and can also be prepared during special occasions,festivals and other celebrations.This irresistible Wood apple gravy makes a very delectable accompaniment for Chapati, roti, parathas, poori, dosa and also for rice.

Wood apple (Bael) curry

Ingredients to make Wood apple (Bael) curry

  • 1 cup Wood apple pulp
  • 1/4 cup jaggery
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • A sprig of curry leaves
  • 2 teaspoon roasted peanuts
  • 1 teaspoon roasted sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons desiccated coconut powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or according to taste
  • 3 teaspoons edible oil
  • 2 glass water

How to make Wood apple (Bael) curry

  1. Break open ripe Wood apple and scoop out the pulp
  2. Add jaggery and salt to it
  3. Mix well and keep it aside
  4. Grind roasted Peanuts and Sesame seeds together into fine powder
  5. Heat oil in a pan on medium flame, add mustard seeds and let it splutter.Then add a pinch of asafoetida, turmeric powder,curry leaves and saute
  6. Now add Wood apple pulp mixture to it and saute
  7. Add a cup of water, red chili powder stir well and bring to boil
  8. Add 2 teaspoons of Peanut-sesame powder and 2 teaspoons desiccated coconut powder and mix well.
  9. Now the gravy starts thickening .So add a cup of water to adjust the consistency. Stir well and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes. Wood apple curry is ready to serve.

My Tip:

Add little salt to the gravy only if required as we have already mixed salt with the pulp.
