A delicious sambhar made with brinjal and drumsticks, a perfect dish to be served with some hot steamed rice.

Brinjal and Drumstick Sambar

Ingredients to make Brinjal and Drumstick Sambar

  • 1 cup of Thuvar dal
  • 1 Teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Musted seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon of hing
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sambar powder
  • 1 Teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoon of red chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of coriander powder
  • 1 Tablespoons of oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions shallots
  • 1 chopped drumsticks
  • 6 chopped brinjals
  • 3 chopped midum size tomatoes
  • Few curry leaves
  • Few chopped coriander leavs

How to make Brinjal and Drumstick Sambar

  1. TAKE A PRESSURE COOKER ADD 1 CUP OF THUVAR DAL
  2. ADD WATER AND WASH WELL
  3. DRAIN THE WATER AND ADD FRESH 2 CUPS OF WATER
  4. ADD 1/4 TEASPOON OF TURMERIC POWDER AND 1/4 TEASPOON OF CUMIN SEEDS
  5. ADD 3 DROPS OF VEG OIL
  6. CLOSE THE PRESSURE COOKER
  7. PUT THE WEIGHT AND COOK FOR 3 SOUNDS(WHISTLES)
  8. AFTER COOK KEEP ASIDE
  9. TAKE A SAUSE PAN ADD 1/4 CUP OF CHOPPED ONION SHALLOTS
  10. ADD 1 CHOPPED DRUMSTICKS AND 6 CHOPPED BRINJALS
  11. ADD 3 CHOPPED MIDUM SIZE TOMATOES
  12. ADD 2 CUPS OF WATER
  13. ADD 2 TEASPOON OF HOME MADE RED CHILLY POWDER
  14. ADD 1/4 TEASPOON OF TURMERIC POWDER AND MIX WELL
  15. ADD SALT TO TASTE
  16. MIX WELL COOK FOR 7-10 MINUTES
  17. DAL IS READY
  18. VEGETABLES ARE COOKED WELL
  19. ADD DAL AND COOK FOR MIDUM FLAME
  20. MIX WELL
  21. ADD 1/4 TEASPOON OF CORIANDER POWDER
  22. MIX WELL AND COOK FOR 5 MINUTES
  23. THEN ADD CHOPPED CORIANDER LEAVS AND SWITCH OFF THE FLAME
  24. HEAT A SEASONING PAN AND ADD OIL
  25. ADD 1/4 TEASPOON OF CUMIN SEEDS ANDALSO ADD 1/2 TEASPOON OF MUSTED SEEDS
  26. ADD FEW CURRY LEAVES
  27. ADD 1/4 TEASPOON OF HING AND ALSO 1/2 TEASPOON OF SAMBAR POWDER SWITCH OFF THE FLAME
  28. ADD INTO SAMBAR
  29. MIX WELL AROMATIC SAMBAR IS READY
