A traditional recipe that is served in every Kerala Sadya

Kurukku Kalan !!

Ingredients to make Kurukku Kalan !!

  • Yam - 1 small piece peeled washed and cubed
  • Raw banana - 1 cut similarly
  • coconut - 1 big cup
  • curd - 1 and half cup( sour curd)
  • green chilly - 2 or 3 (adjust to taste)
  • Black pepper powder- 1 tspn(fresh crushed)
  • turmeric powder- half tspn
  • salt to taste
  • mustard seeds - 1 tspn
  • Dry red chilly - 2 nos
  • jeera -1 tspn
  • methi seeds - half tspn
  • curry leaves - few
  • coconut oil - 1 tbspn

How to make Kurukku Kalan !!

  1. Take a kadai put the cubed vegetables in it and put turmeric powder and salt....Pour little water.... and let it cook ...
  2. When the vegetables are cooked beat the curd and pour in it , put pepper powder and let it cook for a few minutes....The curd should get absorbed well in the vegetables...
  3. In the meantime grind the coconut , green chilly and jeera and pour it in the kadai
  4. Check salt and add water and bring to required consistency.
  5. Now in a tadka pan put oil.....when hot add mustard seeds, methi seeds,red chilly broken and curry leaves...
  6. Pour this tadka over the curry... Mix well .
  7. Serve with steamed rice
