About Chettinad pepper chicken curry. Recipe

This is a famous and spicy chicken curry from chettinad cuisine, that goes very well with any kind of roti, appam, rice or dosa.

Ingredients to make Chettinad pepper chicken curry.

  • chicken pieces 500g
  • salt
  • oil 4 tbsp
  • onion 2 chopped
  • ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
  • tomatoes 2 chopped
  • Crushed pepper 1 to 2 tbsp
  • coriander powder 1 tsp
  • chilli powder 1 tsp
  • jeera powder 1/4 tsp
  • Whole garam masala
  • cardamom 2
  • cinnamon 1 small piece
  • cloves 3
  • mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
  • jeera 2 pinch
  • curry leaves
  • coriander leaves.

How to make Chettinad pepper chicken curry.

  1. Heat oil in a big kadai. Put mustard seeds , jeera & curry leaves. When it splutter ,add whole garam Masala.
  2. Then add onion , green chillies & curry leaves. Fry till onions turn golden brown.
  3. Then add ginger garlic paste. Saute well.
  4. Then put tomatoes , along with chilli& coriander powders, turmeric,& cumin powder. Cook till tomatoes r well mashed & oil separates.
  5. Then add chicken. Stir well. Add water only if needed.
  6. Cover & cook on medium flame. When chicken s cooked, add crushed pepper or pepper powder.stir well.
  7. Add coriander leaves if u want.
  8. Remove & serve hot with rice or rotis.

My Tip:

U can make this dish with or without gravy. Adjust the water u add.
