Apple Chutney

Ingredients to make Apple Chutney

  • Apples- 7
  • Raw mango- 1
  • Sugar- 1 cup
  • Green chilies- 4
  • Ginger- 1 tbsp
  • White vinegar- 1 tbsp
  • Chilli flakes- 1 tbsp
  • Cooking oil- 2.5 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Raisins- 1.5 tbsp
  • Turmeric- 1/3 tsp
  • Salt- to taste
  • Cinnamon- 1/2 inch
  • Green cardamom- 4
  • Cloves- 2
  • Water- 1/2 cup

How to make Apple Chutney

  1. Peel and chop the apples and raw mango into small pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan and add cumin seeds. When it starts to crackle then add cardamom ,cinnamon,cloves and green chillies.
  3. Add chopped apples and raw mango and stir for a few seconds. Then add turmeric, salt ,1/2 cup water and cover the pan with a lid and cook on a low heat.
  4. When the apples become soft then add chopped ginger ,raisins, chilli flakes and cook till the chutney thickens (no need to mash the apples).
  5. Add vinegar in the chutney and give it a boil. (You can avoid adding vinegar if you store it in the refrigerator)
  6. Let it cool down and then store in a glass jar. Keep it refrigerated after 3-4 days for a long shelf life. (stays well for minimum 25 days in the refrigerator).
  7. Serve with any snack, meal or use as a sandwich spread.
My Tip: You can use lemon juice instead of raw mangoes and if you are using tart apples then skip adding both.
