An instant snack that can be made with available items in hand and also can be stored for a week.

Instant Sooji Chakli

Ingredients to make Instant Sooji Chakli

  • Store bought rice flour 2 cups
  • sooji / Semo;ina / Rava 1 cup
  • asafoetida powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • salt to taste
  • Cumin seeds or sesame seeds 1 tea spoon
  • Red chilli powder 1/2 tea spoon
  • Butter or Ghee 2 tea spoons
  • oil for deep frying

How to make Instant Sooji Chakli

  1. In a broad vessel or pan boil 2 cups of water.
  2. When the water starts to roll on keep the flame low and add the sooji gently. Stir well and break the lumps if any.
  3. When the stuff thickens like upma and sooji is boiled well switch off.
  4. In another broad vessel add the rice flour, ghee, salt, chilli powder, cumin, asafoetida and the boiled sooji.
  5. Knead well with hand. Sprinkle some water while kneading.
  6. Bring it to soft and smooth dough consistency like chapathi dough.
  7. Heat oil in a pan. Take an orange size of dough and put in to the chakli mould.
  8. Squeeze to desired size of chaklis in to the oil and deep fry till they become cripsy.

My Tip:

Adding ghee or butter is optional. but adding ghee or butter gives extra crispiness to the chaklis.
