How to make Stuffed Dal Dhokli

  1. Wash the toor dal and soak it in 2 cups of water for 30 mins. Then pressure cook it till 2 whistles blow.
  2. Once cooled, blend it with a hand blender and add the chopped tomato, salt and all the ingredients listed under dal, except the coriander leaves and lemon juice. Add 2 cups of water and keep aside.
  3. To prepare the stuffing, mash the boiled potatoes and add all the ingredients listed under the stuffing. Mix it well and keep aside.
  4. Take the wheat flour in a bowl, add all the masala listed under the dhokli and prepare a semi soft dough adding water.
  5. Make small balls and roll 3"pooris. Put 1 tsp of potato stuffing in the center, cover and close the stuffing from all sides by gathering the poori ( making it like a kachori ). Keep it aside. Repeat this process with the remaining dough.
  6. Heat the prepared dal . Allow it to cook till the cluster beans get cooked, add the stuffed dhoklis into the boiling dal one by one. Cover the pan and allow it to cook. Stir it with the spatula once in a while.
  7. When the dhoklis float on the surface, it is ready. Remove from the heat
  8. To make the tempering, heat oil in pan, add red chilli, mustard and allow it to splutter, then add cloves, cinnamon and cook for a while. Next add asafoetida, curry leaves and pour it over the prepared dhokli.
  9. Finally squeeze lemon juice on top and garnish it with coriander leaves. Your stuffed Dhokli is ready to be served.

My Tip:

Best served with a dollop of ghee, finely chopped onion and rice.
