About Basbousa - Semolina Cake Recipe

A popular middle eastern recipe made out of semolina which got soaked in sugar syrup. After that Garnished well with shaved almonds and coconuts and it is a best combo for hot tea and coffee

Basbousa - Semolina Cake

Ingredients to make Basbousa - Semolina Cake

  • semolina - 2 cup
  • butter - 1 cup
  • Milkmaid - 400 grams
  • Baking Powder - 1 1/2 teaspoon
  • Shredded coconut - 1 cup
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Shaved almonds - 1/4 cup
  • For sugar syrup :
  • sugar - 1 1/2 cup
  • water - 1 1/2 cup
  • lemon juice - 1/4 teaspoon
  • cinnamon stick - 1
  • Rose water - 1 tablespoon

How to make Basbousa - Semolina Cake

  1. Preheat the oven on 350 °
  2. Mix semolina milk baking powder milkmaid shredded coconut melted butter in a large mixing bowl without any lumps.
  3. Pour the mixture in a greased pan and bake it for 40 to 45 minutes..
  4. When the cake is baking prepare the sugar syrup by adding sugar to water and boil with cinnamon stick until the syrup thickness
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice and rose water..
  6. Let cool completely and remove the cinnamon stick.
  7. As soon as the cake is removed from the oven pour the cool syrup on the hot basbousa.
  8. Let it sit for 1 hour.
  9. After that garnish the cake with shaved almonds and cocunut
  10. Serve hot with a cup of tea or coffee..

My Tip:

You can add plain yogurt instead of milk in the cake batter
