Dal Chawal Balls

Ingredients to make Dal Chawal Balls

  • 1/2 cup masoor dal
  • 1/2 cup moong dal
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 Tsp carrom seeds
  • 3 green chillies
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Pinch of asafetida powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup cooked rice

How to make Dal Chawal Balls

  1. TAKE 1/2 CUP MOONG AND 1/2 CUP MASOOR DAL ( SOAKED), ADD 1/4 TSP TURMERIC POWDER & SALT TO TASTE
  2. COVER AND LET IT COOK TILL MUSHY
  3. IN A GRINDER JAR ADD 3 GREEN CHILLIES AND 3 TOMATOES
  4. GRIND INTO PUREE
  5. FOR TEMPERING- HEAT 2 TBSP GHEE
  6. ADD PINCH OF ASAFOETIDA, 1/2 TSP CUMIN SEEDS, 1/4 TSP CARROM SEEDS, ONCE THEY BEGIN TO SPLUTTER,
  7. ADD 1/2 CUP ONION & COOK FOR 2-3 MINUTES
  8. ADD TOMATO PUREE, 1)2 TSP CHILLY POWDER, 1/2 TSP GARAM MASALA
  9. COVER AND COOK UNTIL OIL SEPERATES
  10. ADD THIS TADKA TO THE COOKED DAL
  11. TAKE 1 CUP OF TADKA DAL AND COOK TO MAKE IT THICK OR DRY
  12. ADD 3/4 CUP COOKED RICE AND MIX WELL
  13. WHEN THE MIXTURE LOOKS LIKE A DOUGH, ADD 2 TBSP FRESH CORIANDER & 1 TSP LEMON JUICE. MIX WELL
  14. ONCE COOLED, SHAPE INTO SMALL BALLS.
  15. IN A BOWL ADD 1/2 CUP REFINED FLOUR OR CORNFLOUR, SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE
  16. ADD WATER AND MAKE A THICK BATTER
  17. COAT THE BALLS WITH THE BATTER AND FRY IN HOT OIL
  18. FLIP THEM, WHEN TURNS GOLDEN FROM ONE SIDE
  19. WHEN TURNS GOLDEN, TRANSFER TO A KITCHEN TOWEL
